Hello Parents,

In an effort to keep everyone on the same page, I want to give you all an update on changes for the rest of track season. We are right at the half-way point for our season, but unfortunately some of our student-athletes are behaving as though we have just started. I will be completely honest with all of you, this past Tuesday's practice was not good. We had some of our student-athletes being disrespectful toward coaches, yelling profanity, not putting forth any effort, and goofing around during our warm-up session and workout. Even though the main misbehavior was coming from a handful of students, it reflected poorly on the entire team because several others continued to laugh and goof around even when coaches asked for everyone to chill out and follow directions. Our middle schoolers disrupted the high school coaches & athletes' practice as well. I do not tolerate disrespect and this type of behavior.

With that being said, from now on, we will have practice for certain groups of athletes on certain days. Until I see changes in overall effort and respect throughout the entire team, we will not have full team practices at the high school track. Your child will be told next week which days they will practice. I do not want to bombard the high school coaches and athletes with middle schoolers who can't seem to behave appropriately. Our high school teams have invitationals and meets to train and prepare for as well.

Making these changes is difficult, but our student-athletes need to understand that even though track is a fun sport, we have to focus and continue to train as fierce competitors. I love our team, and I know they can all rise above and work toward achieving great success this season if they make these changes.

As for this weekend, we will NOT be attending the Invitational at East Jackson. We will not be going on Saturday for several reasons; it is not solely because of the behavior issues from this week. However, as an alternative which will avoid conflicts we have for Saturday, there is an Invitational in Jefferson this Friday. I will know for sure on Thursday if we will be able to attend. The Jefferson Invitational will still limit entries per event, so if we are able to go, the top 2 athletes in each event will be invited to attend and compete.
